What Are the Benefits of Avaira Vitality Contacts?

Avaira Vitality contacts are made by CooperVision, which is also responsible for the MiDay, Biofinity, and Clariti contact lens lines. While Avaira is less well-known than brands like Biofinity, some users are very loyal.

Avaira offers two versions of Vitality: one for single-vision lenses and one for astigmatism (toric lenses). Both are biweekly lenses, which means you replace them every two weeks. They come with UV blocking and an Aberration Neutralizing System to correct common optical imperfections for better vision.

Here’s a breakdown of what these contacts offer:

Who Are Avaira Vitality Contact Lenses a Good Fit For?

Two-week lenses are a good option for people who can take the steps to care for their lenses. You’ll need to clean and carefully store them when you take them out each night. If you have a hard time remembering to do it or often say you’ll “do it later,” you might want to consider dailies instead.

Vitality has some features that address dry eye issues, including high oxygen transmissibility and naturally wettable material. While some EZContacts reviewers agree that they’re good for dry eyes, others feel strongly that they’re not the best for keeping eyes comfortable.

A reviewer named Cinners found them comfortable and hydrating.

Pretty good and comfortable
⭐⭐⭐⭐

“These are comfortable contacts, the only con is that they are hard to put in because they are quite slippery unlike other contacts I’ve used in the past. They are very hydrating and last for a month at a time like they claim they do.”

Cinner Review

However, many others felt very differently. Tod wrote:

Adequate. Can find better for dry eyes.
⭐⭐⭐

“Not amazing for dry eyes. Go with acuvue oasys hydraluxe dailies. Your eyes will thank you.”

Meanwhile, reviewer Sebastian A., who uses scleral lenses (rigid gas-permeable lenses), found Avaira Vitality helpful as a piggyback lens. Piggyback lenses are sometimes used as a cushion if a rigid lens isn’t comfortable.

Great as a Piggyback lens!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“My doc advised that I switch to these as the are a little thicker. I use them as a piggyback lens for my scleral lens and they have been MUCH better than my prior piggyback’s. I suffered a lot with those. No need to try another. I take them out every night and clean them so I get more than two week’s use out of them. Love ’em.”

The verdict: It’s not unusual for reactions to vary from one person to the next, and it’s hard to predict whether you’ll find a particular contact lens comfortable. However, considering the number of people who thought Vitality was very drying or uncomfortable, I wouldn’t recommend these for anyone with severely dry eyes.

On the other hand, if you don’t usually struggle with dry eyes, Vitality might be worth trying.

Avaira Vitality’s Ease of Use

Avaira fared a little better with reviewers when it came to ease of use. Several reviewers liked that the lenses hold up well and don’t tear easily.

The reviewer MyHorsesMom used Vitality to replace ACUVUE lenses and reported better durability. They also had a suggestion about preventing scratchy contact lenses, regardless of brand.

Love them … good longevity
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“I had been using Aucvue for years. They tore SO easy so I my Dr suggested Avaira. I can’t be any happier!! I have been using these lenses now for 3 years. They wear very well and don’t tear within the 2 week period. Many have mentioned they make their eyes scratchy. I have very sensitive eyes. What I can tell you, is that I have to clean every new lens before I wear them – with ALL brands. This will stop the scratchy issue. The previous lenses mentioned above have become really fragile, so you have to buy them more often. I have replaced 2 in a day before. This is what was done with women’s hosiery yrs ago. Avaira is not a brand that does this. Their lenses last!“

Note: New contact lenses in sealed, sterile packaging are safe to wear without cleaning them first. But you can clean and soak them in contact solution before wearing them if you want. Be sure to only use contact solution! No other options are safe for cleaning lenses.

Shopper Eleanor F. also liked the ease of use.

Best ones Ive ever used so far
⭐⭐⭐⭐

“I’ve used acuvue in the past and I find Avaira more comfortable and they dont tear easily like the acuvue. Price is good too”

However, Malinda B. and Theresa both found that these contact lenses tore easily.

tear easily
⭐⭐

“This new vitality thing they’ve switched to, has me replacing my contacts more frequently because they tear easily. I’m not happy about that!! Please go back to making the old ones!”

Terrible in every way
⭐

“This is my first time purchasing this brand and there are the most uncomfortable contacts I’ve ever worn and I do not get much wear out of them before they either rip or they hurt my eyes. The manufacturer says that these are to be replaced every 2 weeks. I’m lucky if I get 4 days out of them, and I don’t wear them more than 8 hours a day because of their uncomfortability, although they claim to be extremely comfortable and are able to endure a long wear time during the day. There are the same exact size that I usually wear. I would never recommend these or purchase these again. I normally wear sofmed contacts. Very disappointed.”

The verdict: The reviews are a bit of a toss-up on ease of use, and your mileage may vary.

Overall, Avaira Vitality contacts only scored 3.5 out of 5 stars from 32 reviews on EZContacts, but the brand still has some devoted fans.

What Do Buyers Think About Avaira Vitality Contact Lenses for Astigmatism?

Vitality’s toric lenses had an overall higher rating than the single-vision version, at 4.7 stars, but they also just currently have 7 ratings. Reviewer Renee reported that these contacts for astigmatism were comfortable and had fewer problems with protein deposits.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“I have always preferred the avaira contac lenses as they feel more comfortable and they don’t seem to get protein deposits on them as other brands of lenses have done.”

Another shopper who goes by Annette P. thought the toric lenses were a little thick and found them uncomfortable.

Meh
⭐⭐⭐

“One lens seems off from the ones my doctor jad me try. Lenses feel thick.”

Note: It’s not clear which brand of lens the reviewer’s doctor had them try at the office, but in general, toric lenses are a bit thicker than single vision.

Are Avaira Vitality Contact Lenses Right for You?

Only you can decide that. Some buyers are very happy with them, while others would rather use other brands. They are relatively reasonable in cost, currently $39.95 for a box of 6, so you could always decide to try them and see!

Avaira Vitality FAQs

Can I get Avaira Vitality in colored lenses?

No. Unfortunately, Vitality doesn’t come in colored lenses. If you want to use contacts to change your eye color, I would look at AIR OPTIX COLORS (monthly), FreshLook ColorBlends (monthly and discontinued, so now might be a good time to stock up), or Dailies Colors (daily).

If I get contact lenses with UV protection, do I still need sunglasses?

Yes. Contacts with UV protection offer some coverage, but only for the parts of the eyes they cover. Sunglasses will provide wider coverage from harmful UV rays.
