America’s Best vs. EZContacts: Which Eyewear Store Wins?

I completed a deep dive into both retailers, comparing their pricing, inventory, shipping times, return policies, customer ratings, and more. From there, I was able to determine who comes out on top.

We’ll begin by looking at the pricing and value offered at America’s Best and EZContacts. We’ll take a look at their eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses.

Comparing Eyeglasses 

America’s Best sells glasses from a variety of brands, including some designer brands. America’s Best has frames starting from $29.95.

In comparison, EZContacts has frames starting from $4.31 from brands like Peachtree.

There’s some overlap between America’s Best and EZContacts’ inventories. In general, the same eyeglasses are typically more expensive at America’s Best. 

Take this BOSS 1582 pair as an example. These glasses with basic plastic lenses cost $329.

On EZContacts, these same glasses frames start at $172.

When you add in clear basic plastic lenses, the cost is $222. And so, you’ll save $107 at EZContacts, or about 48%.

EZContacts also offers lower-priced premium lenses.

The polycarbonate lenses at America’s Best cost $96, and their high-index lenses cost $140.

In comparison, EZContacts’ polycarbonate lenses cost $49.95. Their super-thin high-index lenses cost $99.

America’s Best transition lenses are also more expensive than EZContacts’ lenses, costing $170. 

In comparison, EZContacts’ transition lenses start at $139.

In addition, EZContacts offers customizable prescription lenses, and they have add-ons like anti-reflective coating and blue-light shield lenses. They also have plano lenses that can be customized.

Comparing Sunglasses 

America’s Best and EZContacts both sell sunglasses from a variety of eyewear brands, with America’s Best having options starting from $39.95.

However, EZContacts has much lower starting prices. You can find options starting from $8.

You can also find inexpensive options from top brands at EZContacts. This includes these chic Kendall + Kylie sunglasses.

America’s Best and EZContacts sell some of the same sunglasses models. Let’s do a head-to-head battle to see who has the lower price.

First up, let’s look at the sporty Nike RADEON sunglasses. At America’s Best, these sunglasses cost $99.

At EZContacts, these same sunglasses cost $76, saving you $23 (23%).

Now, let’s look at a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses. At America’s Best, these sunglasses cost $229.

At EZContacts, the same model of sunglasses costs $177, saving you $52, or 22%.

Comparing Contact Lenses

America’s Best and EZContacts both sell contacts from many major brands, including ACUVUE, Biofinity, AIR OPTIX, and PRECISION1. However, you’ll notice when you look at them head-to-head, the contacts are often less expensive on EZContacts.

For example, take ACUVUE OASYS for Astigmatism. At America’s Best, these contacts cost $70.20 with an Eyecare club membership, which is an additional fee. Without the membership, the contacts cost $77.99.

At EZContacts, these same contacts cost $63.95, saving you $13, or 20%, no paid membership needed.

As another example, let’s look at the AIR OPTIX COLORS six-pack. These colored contact lenses cost $128.25 on America’s Best with the Eyecare Club discount. Without the discount, they cost $142.49.

At EZContacts, the same contacts cost $119.95, saving you $23 (16%).

Other Important Price and Value Considerations 

Loyalty Program

As mentioned above, America’s Best offers the Eyecare Club loyalty program. The Eyecare Club costs $129 for three years. You get free eye exams for the life of the membership, 10% off all replacement contact lenses, 10% off all eyeglasses, and 10% off accessories in-store.

In addition, America’s Best offers a two-pairs-for-$95 deal, which includes a free eye exam. You can choose from any of their $79.95 glasses for this deal. However, note that this deal is only available in-store.

EZContacts has its own loyalty program called EZPoints. With this program, you earn one point for every $2 spent at EZContacts. Once you’ve earned 250 points, you’ll receive a $25 coupon that you can use on your next order of $250 or more.

Contact Lens Subscription 

You can also save more by signing up for an EZ-Refill contact lens subscription on EZContacts. With this subscription, you’ll get 10% off each order of contacts.

There’s no extra cost for the contact lens subscription, and you can cancel anytime. You can choose to have your contacts delivered every month, every two months, every three months, every six months, or every year, making it flexible.

Price-Matching

EZContacts offers a 105% price match guarantee. If you find glasses, sunglasses, or contact lenses at a lower price at a competitor’s store, email EZContacts’ customer service. EZContacts will refund you the difference and give you an additional 5%. You can find the full terms and conditions here.

Insurance

America’s Best accepts most major vision plans in-store. If you’re shopping online, though, you’ll typically have to pay for your items up front. You’ll then receive an itemized receipt to file for reimbursement.

EZContacts is an out-of-network retailer. You can use your FSA or HSA card at EZContacts. You can also use your out-of-network benefits. To start, you’ll pay for your eyewear yourself using a debit or credit card. Then, you can get a reimbursement from your insurance company. EZContacts will help you out with this. Number of Products and Brands at America’s Best vs. EZContacts

America’s Best and EZContacts both sell eyewear from top brands, including Ray-Ban, Coach, DKNY, and Nike. However, EZContacts has a much larger inventory overall, and they have designer brands such as Gucci and Prada. 

America’s Best has about 885 eyeglasses available from 48 brands.

America’s Best has 89 sunglasses available from just 10 brands.

For contact lenses, they have 158 contact lenses from 15 brands.

EZContacts has far more eyeglasses and sunglasses available. They have over 50,000 products in their inventory from many major brands. There’s a large selection to choose from on the site, from affordable frames to designer eyewear.

For eyeglasses, EZContacts currently has 7,424 eyeglasses available from about 250 brands.

For sunglasses, EZContacts has 5,140 options available from about 200 brands.

For contact lenses, EZContacts has 125 options available from 20 brands.

Along with standard contacts, EZContacts has a variety of toric contacts for astigmatism and multifocal contacts available.

Shipping & Handling

America’s Best Shipping Times 

America’s Best only ships in the United States. After you place your order, your eyewear will be made in one of their centralized labs. The processing time takes about 7 to 10 business days. Then, your order will be shipped out.

Standard ground shipping is free, and it usually takes 5 to 7 business days for your order to reach you. Expedited shipping costs $12.99, and it typically takes 3 to 5 days.

EZContacts Shipping Times 

With EZContacts, if you place your order before 2:00 p.m. EST, it will be processed that same business day. In-stock contacts will usually be shipped out within one to two days. If you’re ordering prescription eyeglasses or sunglasses, it typically takes 3 to 5 days for them to be made in EZContacts’ optical lab.

If your order isn’t in stock, it may take longer to get to you. It’s easy to tell if your product is in stock, though. Just look for the green tick on the product page.

You can also filter by in-stock products.

EZContacts offers free standard shipping on all orders in the U.S. Standard shipping typically takes 5 to 7 days. You can also get your order expedited for an extra fee.

Shipping is also available to Canada and Mexico for an additional fee.

Return Policy & Warranty

America’s Best Return Policy

America’s Best has a 30-day return policy. Glasses can be returned opened, but contact lenses must be returned unopened.

To start the process for an online return, you’ll need to contact customer service either through email or by calling their toll-free phone number. You’ll have to provide your name, the reason for the return, the order number, and whether you’d like an exchange or refund. You’ll then be given a Return Merchandise Authorization number.

Then, you’ll be emailed a prepaid shipping label, which you can use to mail back your item.

Glasses from America’s Best are warranted to be free of manufacturer’s defects for one year from the date of purchase. This warranty doesn’t cover things like scratches or broken glasses. If you want more protection, they offer a One-Year Protection Plan for an additional fee.

EZContacts Return Policy 

EZContacts also offers a 30-day return policy. All items returned in this period will get a 100% refund. However, return shipping isn’t covered except in cases of incorrect or defective products.

Contact lenses must be returned unopened. Eyewear can be returned opened, as long as it’s in its original packaging with all accessories, authenticity paper, and warranty card. Just note that there’s a $25 restocking fee for glasses with custom or prescription lenses. There’s no restocking fee for sunglasses or contact lenses, though.

EZContacts also makes it easy to return items. Just head to your account and click ‘Start Return’ next to the item. Or, you can use this order locator form on the Returns and Exchanges page.

You can also contact customer service by phone or email if you’re having trouble with your return.

Once EZContacts’ 30-day warranty expires, the manufacturer’s warranty will apply. This will typically be between 1 and 2 years, depending on the product.

It’s close, but America’s Best wins this round with their prepaid shipping and longer warranty. However, EZContacts makes it a bit easier to start the return process; you can do it all from your account.

America’s Best Customer Service 

America’s Best has a toll-free customer service phone number you can call. The hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

There’s also a customer care email form you can fill out. You’ll typically get a response within 48 hours. They also have an FAQ page that provides answers to many common customer questions.

America’s Best customer service reviews are mixed. One customer wrote:

“Ordered glasses online, paid for second day delivery. Two weeks nothing? I call customer service and the say the order never got processed?was an error on their part. Ow I have to wait two more weeks for them because the it takes 7-10 days to process the order before they can even ship glasses! I need these for work as I work in Hospital ER.. Major inconvenience! Would have gone to a local store! Horrible Customer service. Won’t be using Americas Best Anymore!”

“Took 10 days longer than advertised. Had a wedding at the end of the month and needed new glasses and decided to go with America’s best just to try something different. They still haven’t shipped my order 20 days later I emailed them 3 times and no response will not use them again.”

“I purchased a pair of Ray Ban frames and I wear multi focal lenses. It’s only been about 5 months and my lenses are all scratched up. I take really good care of my glasses and have been wearing glasses for decades. I am still within warranty but my concern is that the material used for the lenses is an inferior quality. Not really happy about this especially because I paid an additional price for coating etc.”

America’s Best’s website is streamlined and simple to use. They have a navigation bar with all their eyewear categories. This makes the site easy to navigate and makes your shopping experience quicker.

However, one downside of America’s Best website is that it doesn’t have many filters for eyeglasses and sunglasses, making it trickier to find what you’re looking for. They only have filters for ‘Price,’ ‘Brand,’ ‘Color,’ ‘Material,’ ‘Type,’ ‘Shape, ‘Size,’ and ‘Featured.’

Contact lenses have even fewer filters. They only have filters for ‘Brand,’ ‘Type,’ and Manufacturer.’

In addition, you’ll have to add your prescription manually, or have America’s Best contact your doctor. You can’t upload your prescription, making the process more time-consuming. 

America’s Best does offer a virtual try-on feature. Their mobile site is streamlined as well. However, they don’t offer Apple Pay.
