Ray-Ban RB2132 New Wayfarer: Read This Before You Buy

Man wearing Wayfarer sunglasses

Ray-Ban Wayfarers are truly iconic! Throughout the decades, they’ve been seen on celebrities from James Dean to Tom Cruise to Madonna.

Today, A-listers still love the style. Stars like Olivia Rodrigo, Robert Pattinson, and Leo DiCaprio have been spotted in Wayfarers.

Ray-Ban has released an updated version of the sunglasses to keep the look fresh. If you’re thinking of replacing your old Wayfarers or are new to the style, the Ray-Ban RB1232 New Wayfarer could be for you.

I did a deep dive into these sunglasses and looked at their features, color options, reviews, and more. Keep reading to find out what you need to know before snagging a pair.

What’s the Style of the Ray-Ban RB2132 New Wayfarer?

The New Wayfarers sunglasses offer a modern take on a classic style. The profile is rectangular, but the lenses are slightly rounded at the bottom. This helps soften the look.

The temples are slim and hug the head, which keeps them secure. A high bridge also provides a comfortable fit for most wearers.

Who Would These Sunglasses Work Well For?

Bottom-heavy frames are often recommended for people with heart-shaped faces. The rectangular style would also complement a round or oval face.

In addition, since the lenses are rounded at the bottom, they can also work for square-shaped faces. Shoppers who like a slightly retro look or prefer more lens coverage may also want to consider them.

However, if you prefer smaller lenses or a lower-profile design in your sunglasses, the new Wayfarer might not be the best fit for you. You can always virtually try them on to see how they’ll look on your face.

The RB2132 New Wayfarer also offers high-quality lenses known for crisp vision and excellent glare minimization. These versatile shades are great for everything from outdoor sports to just running errands. No matter where you wear them, they’ll make you look and feel super stylish.

What Colors are Available?

One of my favorite things about the Ray-Ban RB2132 New Wayfarer is how many color options there are. There are over 15 options available!

This includes classic black with dark green lenses, tortoise with green or brown lenses, and Havana with gray lenses. There are also transparent frames with clear gray lenses, blue camouflage with blue lenses, and green camouflage with green lenses.

With so much variation, there’s sure to be a color combo that works for you.

Eye Protection Is Key

Of course, you want your sunglasses to look sharp. But you want to make sure they help protect your eyes from the sun, too.

Don’t all sunglasses do that, you may be asking? All sunglasses should protect your eyes from UV rays. But in reality, some cheap shades have lower levels of protection that don’t work as well.

Fortunately, the Ray-Ban Wayfarers have a UV400 rating, which means they block 100% of harmful UVA or UVB rays.

Need glare reduction for high-glare situations like water sports? Choose one of the varieties with polarized lenses, such as the Black on Transparent frames with Polarized Green Classic G-15 lenses.

However, if you sometimes wear your shades indoors or in lower light, it’s better to avoid polarization, which will make it harder to see in these situations.

How Durable Are the New Wayfarers?

The New Wayfarers are made out of nylon, and they’re strong yet versatile. Like all Ray-Ban glasses, they hold up well to normal wear and tear, but I’d still recommend keeping them in the protective case when not in use.

Although the slightly curved temples cling to the head and generally do a good job staying put, wearers with a very active lifestyle may also benefit from a glasses strap for extra security.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Ordered the 52-18 which fit great on a thinner face. The Wayfarers from the ’80s were much to large on my face and these are a cool update to the original. The transparent grey gives them an appealing modern look too.”

A reviewer who goes by Bazabal really liked these sunglasses and has already bought a second pair:

“2nd pair of NEW WAYFARER. I really like them. Ive purchased a pair of Parasol from Ez contacts. Will buy from them in the future, good price points.”

The History of Ray-Ban Wayfarers

Ray-Ban Wayfarers go all the way back to 1952, when the earliest version was released. The original Wayfarers gave sunglass wearers a new option: molded plastic frames. These are super common today, but they were unheard of in 1952. Previously, wire frames were one of the only options for glasses.

The brand remained popular throughout the 1950s and ’60s and was often seen on celebrities of the time. But by the ’70s, Ray-Bans had declined in popularity as tastes changed, and the company almost closed down.

However, their popularity hit another upswing in the 1980s, after the company made a product placement deal that led to Ray-Bans appearing in over 60 shows and movies per year.

Sales slowed again in the ’90s, but they once again picked up in the early 2000s due to celebrities like Chloe Sevigny and Mary-Kate Olsen donning vintage Wayfarers. The company also took advantage of its vintage styles’ appeal and reissued the RB2140 design that was selling for high prices on eBay.

By the 2020s, Ray-Ban had entered an agreement with Facebook to create a “smart glasses” version of Wayfarers called Ray-Ban Stories. However, standard sunglasses like the RB2132 New Wayfarer remain very popular.

TL;DR

The Ray-Ban Wayfarers are an iconic sunglass style. Now, Ray-Ban is introducing these sunglasses to a new generation with the New Wayfarer.

  • The Ray-Ban RB2132 New Wayfarer is rectangular, but the lenses are slightly rounded at the bottom, softening their look.
  • The sunglasses work particularly well for oval, round, square, or heart-shaped faces. If you’re unsure if they’re right for you, you can virtually try them on.
  • The New Wayfarers come in a wide variety of color combinations, from muted colors to more bold options.
  • Many EZContacts customers were happy with their New Wayfarers. Some have even purchased a second pair.
  • Ray-Ban Wayfarers were first released in the ’50s, and they gave sunglass wearers a new option: molded plastic frames. The brand remains popular today, and Ray-Ban has also released a smart glasses version of their Wayfarers.
