Vision insurance can be very confusing! It can be tricky to know which eyewear retailers take vision insurance. You may also be unsure about how to use your benefits.
If you’re asking, does EZContacts take VSP, I’m here to help. I’ll break down how to use your VSP benefits on EZContacts. I’ll also answer some other frequently asked questions about vision insurance.
What Is VSP Vision Care?
VSP Vision Care was founded in 1955 in Oakland, California. In the years since, they’ve grown to become a massive national not-for-profit vision benefits company.
According to the CDC, they’re now the largest vision care provider in the U.S. They have millions of members, and they offer comprehensive coverage for eye exams, eyeglasses, and contact lenses.
Does EZContacts Take VSP?
EZContacts is an out-of-network provider. This means that EZContacts doesn’t directly accept VSP as an in-network provider. But you can still use your out-of-network benefits and get reimbursed.
To use your VSP benefits with EZContacts, you’ll first pay for your eyewear yourself. Then, you can submit a claim to VSP for reimbursement.
If this sounds complicated, don’t fret. EZContacts will help you get your reimbursement. To start the process, simply fill out this form.
You can also submit a claim through a form on VSP’s website. If you choose to go this route, you’ll need:
- Name of provider (in this case, EZContacts)
- Name of patient (your name)
- Service date (the date you placed your order)
- Complete description and amount paid for each service
Remember to include your receipt when you upload your claim form. If claims are submitted without a receipt or all the relevant info, this can cause significant delays in processing your claim.

How Long Do You Have To Submit a Claim for Reimbursement?
VSP’s website says you typically have 12 months from the date of service (the day you place your order) to submit your claim for reimbursement.
However, it’s best to submit your claim sooner, so you can get reimbursed sooner! Additionally, it will be easier to find your receipt and other information if you submit earlier.
Will VSP Reimburse You the Full Amount?
It depends on the specific type of policy you have. In some cases, you may be reimbursed fully. But in other situations, you might only receive a partial reimbursement.
If you have questions or concerns about your vision prescription coverage, it’s a good idea to contact VSP for more information.
Can You Use an FSA or HSA Card on EZContacts?
Yes, you can use FSA and HSA cards for eligible items like prescription glasses and contacts. However, there are some exclusions from many FSA/HSA accounts. Non-prescription items or those for cosmetic use typically aren’t eligible for FSA or HSA spending.
How Do You Use an FSA or HSA Card to Pay for Glasses or Contacts?
When you’ve found the perfect glasses or contacts, and you’re ready to check out, simply enter your FSA or HSA card number just like a debit or credit card.
In the event that the card is declined, you may need to check with the card provider to find out why. Until then, you can use another form of payment and save your receipt.
If the issue is temporary, you may be able to submit the receipt to your HSA or FSA later for reimbursement.

What Items Does Vision Insurance Usually Cover?
Every vision insurance policy is a little different. It’s best to consult your policy to find out exactly what is covered.
If you’re not sure where to start, try logging into your account on the insurer’s website, finding your vision plan, and looking for information about “coverage” or “benefits.” Usually, you can find a breakdown of which services are covered and at what percentage.
In general, most policies have some type of coverage for the following:
Routine annual vision exams
Some policies cover routine eye exams completely, while others may require a small copay.
Eyeglass lenses
Vision insurance policies often cover standard prescriptions, such as single vision, bifocal, or trifocal, either with or without a copay. Progressives may or may not be covered.
Eyeglass frames
Sometimes, people new to buying glasses are surprised to learn that the frames and lenses are sold separately. It’s helpful to remember that the separation allows you more freedom in choosing frames that you like.
Most vision plans offer an annual allowance toward eyeglass frames. You will then often need to pay out-of-pocket for anything beyond that amount. With that in mind, you might consider a sturdy eyeglass case to protect your glasses from damage when you aren’t wearing them.
Lens enhancements
These include scratch-resistant or anti-glare coatings and sometimes progressive lenses. Many plans have partial coverage or discounts for these enhancements. But again, you may have to pay some of the cost.
Contact lenses
If glasses don’t work well for you, vision plans usually cover a year’s supply of contact lenses, with or without a copay.
According to VSP’s website, you can save up to $300 or more (depending on your specific plan) on your yearly supply of contacts. Then, the rest is paid out of pocket.

What Isn’t Covered by Vision Insurance?
Again, the specifics vary by policy. But most of the time, non-prescription glasses or contacts worn strictly for cosmetic reasons won’t be covered. Some policies may pay for sunglasses only if they are prescription. At EZContacts, your vision prescription can be added to any prescription-capable sunglasses.
What if Your Insurance/FSA/HSA Won’t Cover the Full Cost of Your Glasses?
Finding out your vision insurance policy doesn’t cover everything in full can be frustrating. Fortunately, EZContacts carries a wide range of frames and contact lenses with prices for every budget.
