I took a thorough look through both stores and compared their pricing and value, inventory, shipping times, return policies, customer reviews, and more. From there, I was able to determine who wins.

Let’s start by looking at the pricing of Visionworks and EZContacts. We’ll look at the value offered at each store, and we’ll also compare products head-to-head.

Comparing Eyeglasses 

EZContacts and Visionworks both sell a variety of major eyewear brands. At Visionworks, there are eyeglass frames starting at $41.97.

Visionworks’ starting price for glasses is far higher than EZContacts’ starting price. At EZContacts, there are frames starting at $4.31 from brands like Peachtree.

Visionworks’ lenses are also more expensive than EZContacts’ lenses. Visionworks’ standard plastic lenses cost $102. Their polycarbonate lenses are $132, and their high-index lenses are $270.

EZContacts’ standard plastic lenses cost $39.95. Their polycarbonate lenses are $49.95. Their super-thin high index lenses are $99.00, and their ultra-thin high index lenses are $199.

Now, let’s look at some frames head-to-head. Visionworks often offers a 40% off promotion on their frames and lenses. However, even with that, the frames at Visionworks are typically more expensive than the frames at EZContacts.

Take the Bebe 5187 in Jet Crystal as an example. With the 40% off sale, these frames cost $119 at Visionworks.

If you add standard lenses to the Bebe glasses, Visionworks’ glasses would cost $221.

These same Bebe frames in Jet Crystal currently cost $60 on EZContacts.

When you add in premium standard plastic lenses, the Bebe glasses cost $109 in total. This is a savings of $112, or 50%!

It’s the same story with many other glasses that Visionworks and EZContacts both sell. These Coach frames will cost you $179 at Visionworks.

Comparing Sunglasses 

Visionworks has sunglasses starting at about $77.

At EZContacts, many sunglasses cost less than this. There are sunglasses starting at around $8.00.

EZContacts has many inexpensive sunglasses from top brands available. For instance, these stylish Kate Spade sunglasses are currently $34.

EZContacts and Visionworks both sell some of the same major brands, including Ray-Ban, Nike, Bebe, and Longchamp. When looked at head-to-head, EZContacts’ sunglasses are often cheaper.

Let’s take this stylish pair from Longchamp as an example. At Visionworks, these sunglasses cost $149.97 with the 40% off promotion.

At EZContacts, these same sunglasses cost $119.93. This is a savings of $30, or about 20%.

Comparing Contact Lenses

EZContacts and Visionworks both sell contact lenses from major brands like Johnson & Johnson, Alcon, Biofinity, Bausch & Lomb, and Clariti. However, like with the eyeglasses and sunglasses, the contacts are often cheaper at EZContacts.

Let’s look at ACUVUE Oasys for Astigmatism first. These contacts from Johnson & Johnson cost $93 per box at Visionworks.

At EZContacts, the same contacts cost $63.95 per box. This is a savings of $30, or 32%.

If you’re looking for daily contacts, these Biotrue ONEday contacts cost $103 per box at Visionworks.

At EZContacts, the same 90-pack would cost you $79.95. This is a savings of $24, or 23%.

Other Important Price and Value Considerations 

Contact Lens Subscription 

EZContacts offers a subscription service that can save you even more money on your contact lenses. With this service, you can save 10% on each contact lens purchase.

You can choose to have the contacts delivered every month, every two months, every three months, every six months, or every year.

Visionworks doesn’t have a recurring contact lens subscription. However, you can save 10% off an annual supply.

Loyalty Program

EZContacts has a loyalty program called EZPoints that can help you save money on eyewear purchases. With this program, you’ll earn one EZPoint for every two dollars spent on glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses. Once you’ve earned 250 points, you’ll get a $25 coupon in your email. You can then use it on your next order of $150 or more.

Visionworks doesn’t have a specific loyalty program, but they do have some special offers and discounts. This includes their “The Works” promotion. With this promotion, if you buy contact lenses, you’ll get 60% off a complete pair of prescription glasses. You’ll also get $50 off a non-prescription pair of sunglasses. 

Price-Matching

In addition to their loyalty program, EZContacts also offers a price-match guarantee. If you buy eyewear at EZContacts and then find the same eyewear at a lower price at a competitor’s store, reach out to EZContacts’ customer service. Visionworks doesn’t offer a price-match guarantee.

Insurance

Visionworks accepts hundreds of vision plans at their stores. However, they only accept select plans from Davis Vision online. This makes it trickier to buy eyewear online from them. You can use out-of-network benefits online. You’ll just have to pay first with your debit or credit card and then get a reimbursement from your insurance company.

EZContacts is an out-of-network retailer. This means you’ll be able to use out-of-network benefits while shopping on EZContacts. To start, you’ll have to pay for your eyewear yourself with your debit or credit card. Then, you can get a reimbursement from your insurance company. EZContacts will help you with this, though. Just fill out this form to start the reimbursement process.

You can also use an FSA or HSA card on approved items while shopping at EZContacts.

Who Wins

EZContacts wins this round with their far lower prices on eyeglasses, contact lenses, and sunglasses. They also offer a loyalty program, a contact lens subscription service, and a price-match guarantee to help bring costs down.

Frame & Lens Selection

Number of Products and Brands at Visionworks vs. EZContacts

Visionworks’ online store is limited. They sell glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses, but they don’t have any eye care products, like eye drops.

For glasses, they have about 800 options from 30 brands.

For sunglasses, they currently have 121 options from about 20 brands.

For contact lenses, they have 116 options from about 20 brands.

In addition, some of this eyewear can only be purchased in-store. There’s also no way to filter these products out when shopping online. You’ll have to click on each product individually to see if it’s available online or not.

EZContacts has far more products available online. There are currently about 7,377 glasses in stock from hundreds of brands.

There are around 5,099 sunglasses in stock.

There are also around 124 contact lenses in stock from 20 brands.

All of EZContacts’ products are 100% authentic, and their products are all sourced straight from the manufacturer.

EZContacts wins this round with their far larger inventory overall. EZContacts has thousands more products than Visionworks.

Shipping & Handling

Visionworks Shipping Times 

At Visionworks, it generally takes around 10 days to process online glasses orders. However, it may take longer if you have a complex prescription.

Once the order is processed, it will be shipped through UPS ground shipping, and it typically takes one to five days to reach you. Standard shipping is free for all orders. There’s also faster, premium shipping available for an additional fee.

If you want to see where your order is, you can use the order status tracker on Visionworks’ website. You can also contact customer service if you have any questions about your order.

There have been some reviews that discuss long shipping times with Visionworks. We’ll get more into that later in the article.

EZContacts Shipping Times 

At EZContacts, if you place your order before 2:00 p.m. EST, it will typically be processed that same business day. If you’re ordering prescription lenses, it will usually take about three to five business days for them to be made in the optical lab.

In-stock contacts usually ship out in one to two business days. If there’s a delay with your order, you’ll be notified by email within 24 hours.

Once your order is processed and ready, it will be shipped with USPS standard shipping, which takes about five to seven business days. You can also choose to do expedited shipping for an additional fee.

Note that there may be a bit of a delay if your order isn’t in-stock. To ensure it’s in-stock, look for the green checkmark next to the item.

Return Policy & Warranty

Visionworks Return Policy 

Visionworks offers a 100-day guarantee with their glasses and sunglasses. If you’re dissatisfied with your glasses in any way, you can return them to Visionworks within 100 days of purchase. You can exchange them for a pair that is of equal or lower value. Or, you can get your money back.

To take advantage of this, the glasses you return must be in new and original condition. The guarantee doesn’t apply to broken or damaged glasses.

If you buy online, you can ship your glasses back to Visionworks. However, if you buy in-store, you’ll have to return the glasses to a store.

Visionworks doesn’t have a clear return policy for returning contact lenses, and specific policies vary by store. If you want to return contacts, reach out to customer service to find the best way to go about this.

You can also purchase a 12-month warranty when you buy your glasses. This warranty costs $35 for one year of coverage, and it covers the replacement of glasses due to accidental damage. With this warranty, if your glasses break or get damaged, you’ll be eligible for a one-time replacement.

EZContacts Return Policy 

EZContacts offers free returns within 30 days of purchase. Contact lenses must be returned unopened, but glasses and sunglasses can be returned opened. They just must be undamaged and include all the accessories they came with. You’ll usually receive your refund one to three days after your product arrives at EZContacts’ facilities.

To begin the return process, simply log in to your account and click ‘Start return’ next to your order details. You can also go to the returns and exchanges page and put in your email address, or you can contact customer service. Note that return shipping isn’t covered except in the case of damage or discrepancies. 

After EZContacts’ 30-day warranty is up, the manufacturer’s warranty will apply. This is typically one to two years, depending on the product.

Need to talk to a customer service representative? Visionworks has a toll-free phone number you can call if you have any questions about their products. They also have a live chat with an AI chatbot. In addition, there’s a customer service email address that you can use.

There are some negative reviews about Visionworks’ customer service. One customer writes:

“I’ve had it with Visionworks. I’ve now had three sets of lenses crack due to their cheap, low-quality materials and incompetent lab work. Every single time, they’ve tried to blame anything but their own shoddy craftsmanship. The lenses were consistently fitted improperly, causing stress fractures where they met the frames — a basic issue any decent optical lab should catch and correct.

But it gets worse: they refused to stand behind their product. No apology, no accountability, no real help. Just a frustrating cycle of excuses and the same poor-quality replacements destined to fail again.”

EZContacts Customer Service 

There are a few different ways you can get in touch with EZContacts’ customer service. You can call them at their toll-free phone number. The phone line is manned Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

There’s also a live chat that’s manned during business hours. In addition, there’s a customer service email, and most emails are answered within 24 hours.

EZContacts’ customer service has gotten many positive reviews on Trustpilot. One customer wrote:

“I have been going to Visionworks for the past 15 years. And generally had good experiences. But, in the past 5 years, 3 sets of glasses for both my wife and I, the quality of the glasses has been bad. The lens would yellow after a year, halo effects, and the prescription was off. I got glasses on line at a competitor at a fraction of the cost with the same prescription and no issues. Seems like whomever does Visionworks lens manufacturing the past 5 years is sub-standard quality.”

Another customer shared they had to wait a long time for their contact lenses:

“Eye test three months ago and still no contact lenses. Trials were on back order and now lenses a further back order. Benmore never phones back when they say they will. If will be at least four months to get a pair of contact lenses.”

EZContacts has a 4.0 out of 5-star rating on Trustpilot from 45,625 reviews. Many reviewers said they were happy with the fast delivery and quality of the products.

On Visionworks’ website, you’ll see a simple navigation bar at the top of the screen. 

When you get to their glasses page, you’ll see some filtering options. These options are a bit limited, though. You can only filter by ‘Category,’ ‘Brand,’ ‘Lens Option,’ ‘Price Range, ‘Frame Size,’ and ‘Material.’

Their contact lenses page has even fewer filters. You can only filter by ‘Category,’ ‘Brand,’ ‘Price Range,’ and ‘Manufacturer.’

You can upload your prescription to Visionworks’ site. However, Visionworks doesn’t offer virtual try-on for their eyewear. This can make buying online tricky, since you won’t know exactly what the eyewear looks like on you.

EZContacts Website

On EZContacts’ website, you’ll also see a simple navigation bar at the top of the page. This makes it easy and quick to find the items you’re looking for.

In addition, EZContacts has more filters overall than Visionworks on their eyewear pages. On their glasses and sunglasses page, you can filter by everything from star rating to frame shape and dimensions to material.
