I’ve compared the stores’ pricing and value, shipping times, customer reviews, and more to see which store wins.

If you’re trying to decide where to buy from, this guide will help you get a clear picture of what each eyewear store offers. Let’s get into it!

Pricing & Value

We’ll begin by looking at the pricing of the eyewear sold at Target Optical and EZContacts. We’ll look at their eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses and compare different products head-to-head.

Comparing Eyeglasses

Target Optical and EZContacts both sell glasses from many top eyewear brands. At Target Optical, prices start at $56 for adult glasses frames.

Other Important Price and Value Considerations

Contact Lens Subscription

EZContacts offers a subscription service that gets you 10% off the listed retail price. You can choose to have your contacts delivered every month, every two months, every three months, every six months, or every year.

Contact lens subscription at EZContacts
Contact Lens Subscription at EZContacts

Target Optical doesn’t have a specific contact lens subscription. However, they do offer discounts on contacts if you buy annually or if you’re a first-time buyer.

Loyalty Program

EZContacts has a loyalty program called EZPoints. With this program, you’ll earn one EZPoint for every two dollars that you spend on sunglasses, glasses, or contact lenses. When you’ve earned 250 points, you’ll receive a $25 off coupon in your email. You can then apply this to your next order of $150 or more.

Target Optical rewards are part of Target’s larger rewards program. They don’t have a specific rewards program for eyewear.

Price-Matching

EZContacts wants to pass the savings onto their customers. One of the ways they do this is by price matching. If you buy eyewear on EZContacts and then find it at a lower price at a competitor’s store, reach out to EZContacts’ customer service. They’ll refund you the difference, and they’ll also give you an additional 5%. You can find the full terms and conditions here.

Target Optical doesn’t offer price-matching services.

Insurance

Target Optical accepts most major vision insurance plans, both online and in-store. They also accept out-of-network benefits.

EZContacts is an out-of-network retailer, which means you can use your out-of-network benefits while you’re shopping on EZContacts. To use your benefits, you’ll have to first pay for your eyewear yourself with your debit or credit card. Then, you can get a reimbursement from your insurance company. Don’t worry; EZContacts will help you with this! To start the reimbursement process, all you have to do is fill out this form.

You can also use your FSA or HSA card on eligible items. To use these cards, simply enter your card info at checkout, just like you would with a debit or credit card.

Who Wins

EZContacts wins this round. EZContacts offers cheaper eyewear in general than Target Optical. Also, when looked at head-to-head, they often have the same products at lower prices. Shipping & Handling

Target Optical Shipping Times

At Target Optical, it takes about one to two days to process non-prescription eyewear. However, it takes about 14 days to process prescription eyewear once the prescription has been verified.

Once your order is complete, you can choose between three shipping options. The free option is green shipping. This option takes seven business days, and it uses sustainable solutions to reduce climate impact. You could also choose two-day air shipping for $9.99, or you could choose next-day air shipping for $16.99.

You can also choose to pick up your item in-store. The same processing times will apply if you choose this option.

There are some reviews that mention long shipping times with Target Optical. We’ll get more into that in the ‘Customer Ratings & Reviews’ section.

EZContacts Shipping Times

At EZContacts, orders placed before 2:00 p.m. EST will usually be processed that same business day. In-stock contact lenses will typically ship out within one to two business days. If you’re ordering prescription lenses, allow three to five days for your lenses to be made in the optical lab.

Once your order is out for delivery, it will typically get to you within five to seven business days if you choose standard shipping.

EZContacts offers free standard shipping in the U.S. They also offer expedited shipping for an additional fee. In addition, they offer shipping to Canada and Mexico for an additional fee.

If your order isn’t in stock, there might be a bit more of a wait before it gets to you. To ensure the item you want is in stock, look for the green tick on the product page.

Target Optical Return Policy

Target Optical offers a 90-day return policy for most of their items. Contact lenses must be returned unopened and unexpired. All other eyewear can be returned opened; it just must be in its original condition with all the accessories it came with.

To begin the return process, you can call Target Optical at their toll-free number. Or, you can head to the ‘Return Request Page’ if you’d like to complete your return online. Simply fill in your contact information and information about the product. Then, Target Optical will send you a prepaid shipping label within 48 hours.

There are two exceptions to Target Optical’s 90-day policy. Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Nuance Audio Glasses must be returned within 30 days of opening. Make sure to keep this in mind if you’re looking to return these smart glasses.

Target Optical also offers a Worry-Free Protection Plan that provides coverage for your eyewear for a year. This warranty costs $35 for single-vision lenses and $45 for progressive lenses. They’ll then have a $25 co-pay for frames or lens service/replacement, or a $50 co-pay for frame and lens service or replacement.

EZContacts Return Policy

EZContacts offers a 30-day return policy. Any items returned during these 30 days will get a 100% refund. There’s also no restocking fee. However, note that return shipping isn’t covered except in the case of discrepancies or defective products.

Contact lenses must be returned unopened and in their original packaging. Eyewear can be returned open, though. It just must be in its original packaging material and include any authenticity papers, warranty card, and accessories.

Starting your return process is as simple as can be on EZContacts! Simply log in to your account and click ‘Start Return’ next to your order details.

If you don’t want to log in, you can also use the order locator to start your return. You’ll find it on the Returns and Exchanges page.

Customer Rating & Reviews

Target Optical Customer Reviews

Target Optical has a 2.3 rating out of 5 on TrustPilot from 419 reviews. Reviews are mixed overall for the store. One customer shared that she received the wrong contacts, and she had difficulty fixing the mix-up:

“It was my second time placing online order for my contacts,so basically I did reorder my previous prescription, since it didn’t change. After I placed my order, I received an email claiming that my order didn’t match my prescription, but it was fixed and good to go.I ended up getting absolutely wrong strength of my contacts, which means ,whoever corrected my order-made mistake, and filled my prescription incorrectly!!!

When I called costumer service-the representative was horrible, and didn’t even try helping me to figure out how can I get a pair while my order being exchanged!!! And since I ended up opening the box and tried putting my contacts in-this is when I realized that prescription was wrong and I don’t see anything,so now I am worried about getting my refund!!!I should not be charged for company making a mistake like this!!!”

Target Optical review

Over on Reddit, other customers have shared issues they’ve had with Target Optical. One Redditor named Otfitt asked:

“Is Target Optical a good/high quality option for lenses?I received a coupon from my vision insurance company for free frames from Target Optical I’d have to fill the lenses through them to qualify. I have a high prescription (-7 or -8). Previously, I’ve done lens crafters or a local shop by me. Online glasses places have been a bust.”

Reddit screenshot

Another Redditor responded:

“Target optical is sub par with quality and service. My lenses in less than a year lost the coating, got replacement lenses and the coating within 3 weeks is already coming off. They don’t care either.”

Reddit screenshot

Another Redditor also shared they’d had issues with Target Optical:

“They are a bait and switch company. Purchased a pair of glasses through the website with insurance. I selected a pair of glasses heavily based on the fact that the amount was under my insurance coverage, so the frames would have been completely covered. The entire checkout process reflected this until I got to the very last page of the process. I assumed that this was an error and that it could be fixed when customer service opened up. Nope.

At first they told me to wait until the items were shipped then they told me- sorry whenever insurance is applied you pay for the full price. I have asked for someone in customer service to reach out to me, but have not heard from anyone. Target was once known for their customer service, but this has soured my whole view of them.”
