Who Was Salvatore Ferragamo?

Salvatore Ferragamo was a legendary Italian designer who became famous for creating shoes for Hollywood stars.

He was born into a poor Italian family in the late 19th century. After finding his calling very young, he opened his first workshop at the age of 14.

He moved to the United States with his brother when he was 16. After working in a shoe factory, he opened a shoe repair shop in Santa Barbara and eventually moved to Hollywood. In the early ’20s, his career really took off! One of his most iconic creations was a pair of rainbow heels worn by Judy Garland.

He soon returned to Italy to set up his headquarters in Florence. He didn’t start as a fashion designer, nor did he design clothes or other accessories besides shoes in his lifetime.

After his death in the ’60s, his wife Wanda took over and transformed Ferragamo into the legendary fashion house we all know today. This is when they branched out into other accessories and clothes.

In 1998, they signed a licensing deal with manufacturer Luxottica and began releasing Ferragamo sunglasses. And the brand has only grown from there.

Are Ferragamo Sunglasses the Real Deal?

Ferragamo sunglasses have been around for decades, and the brand has been around for a century!

So this isn’t a new fashion brand that just got its start. Today, Ferragamo is manufactured under a licensing deal with Marchon Eyewear, which also manufactures for brands including DKNY and Calvin Klein.

They still manufacture their eyewear in Italy, and the designs are representative of high-end fashion.

So, when you’re buying Ferragamo sunglasses, you’re buying into a piece of fashion history.

What’s the New Collection About?

The pre-fall 2026 eyewear collection includes optical frames and Ferragamo sunglasses. There are some standout styles, including the 2109S, which features a square shape and thick, glamorous acetate frames.

The colors ooze Italian high-end glitz and glamour, with the deep wine burgundy color and the striped blue frames. The shades would fit in on the beaches of the Amalfi Coast!

The sunglasses are finished off with the brand’s signature Double Gancini jewel in metal to complete the luxury look.

Other modern color options include khaki and rose, showing that Ferragamo knows how to appeal to different customers.

Other Styles To Try

Beyond the new collection, a few classics are worth a look. If you love Old Hollywood and vintage-inspired glamour, these incredible Ferragamo sunglasses feature a geometric style with tortoiseshell frames and gradient blue lenses.

The results? An epic pair of shades that look straight out of a movie. That’s why it’s no surprise that Angelina Jolie was spotted in a version of this pair.

For something that’s more ’60s modern-luxury, these cat-eye sunglasses with khaki frames are a good choice. They’re perfect for vacations or wearing in all seasons thanks to the versatile colors.

Celebrities in Ferragamo Shades

Elegant celebrities love Ferragamo sunglasses; Angelina Jolie, for one, has been spotted in numerous styles over the years. They work well with her chic, ‘quiet luxury’ aesthetic.

Other fans include Amal Clooney, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and even fashion trend-makers such as Rachel Zoe.

Ferragamo sunglasses carry a high-quality appeal, and while they release trendy designs in fun colorways, there is always something very ‘Italian heritage’ about the brand.
