Lié Studio Is Taking on Eyewear: Will It Be a Summer Hit?

When I say Denmark, you might think of hygge, snow, and Vikings. But the small country is making waves in fashion, too!

Copenhagen Fashion Week has become one to watch after the Big 4 (London, Milan, Paris, and New York). Eclectic, contemporary Denmark-based brands like LIÉ STUDIO are helping to put the country on the fashion map.

LIÉ STUDIO has mostly focused on bags and jewelry, but now, the cool-girl brand is launching its first sunglasses line this summer. Let’s get into the brand’s story and what you can expect from their new eyewear line.

In 2021, twin model sisters Amalie and Cecilie Moosgaard founded LIÉ STUDIO. The Copenhagen-based brand had a vision to upgrade women’s closets with stylish accessories.

They made accessories their niche in an ever-competitive clothing market. You can wear the brand’s accessories again and again because they look classic. But at the same time, they’ve tapped into European (specifically Scandinavian) elegance that is practical for busy city life.

They call it a “woman’s everyday uniform.” LIÉ STUDIO centers on the ethos that accessories should be versatile for all situations. They’re made to be worn everywhere from the boardroom at the office to brunch with the girls.

Another Boom and Bust Hype Brand?

LIÉ STUDIO creates jewelry and leather pieces that are premium but wearable. They’ve risen through the ranks of new it-girl brands by being a go-to for pretty, easy-to-pull-off pieces. This includes a quirky leather lip gloss carrier that you can wear as a necklace or tie around your bag handles.

From tote bags to necklaces and now eyewear, the shapes are designed to suit a wide range of women who need practical pieces. LIÉ STUDIO’s bags are generally oversized and function as a carryall. Rather than those tiny handbags that have been dominating runways for a few years, LIÉ STUDIO’s bags are made to store everything you need while you’re out and about.

The brand is still fairly new. It remains to be seen if they keep growing and expanding the collections or fade into Instagram obscurity.

Eyewear That Is Easy To Pull Off

After creating a successful line of bags and jewelry, it seemed like the natural next step for LIÉ STUDIO to create eyewear. The summer launch marks their first step into the eyewear market. And the collection is surprisingly good.

The pieces are straightforward enough for anyone to pull off. It’s a small collection featuring three styles: ‘Matteo’, ‘Robyn’, and ‘Lee.’

Each style is inspired by everyday wearable fashion. They’re also infused with elegance and a contemporary design sense that is sure to boost the wearer’s confidence.

The silhouettes aren’t outlandish or uber-stylish, such as those of newer eyewear brands like Gentle Monster or Blue Elephant. Those brands know how to tap into a K-Culture-loving market, similar to how Jimmy Fairly has converted French fashion lovers. It remains to be seen whether the popular LIÉ STUDIO can do the same for those who enjoy Scandi style.

LIÉ STUDIO’s collection features classic curved cat-eye, square, and oval sunglasses. Is the eyewear reinventing the wheel? No. But it’s taken some much-loved sunglasses and adapted them to the LIÉ STUDIO ethos of versatility and chic city-inspired sophistication.

The key to the collection is that the sunglasses suit pretty much any face shape, from heart to square shapes. There are also a few colorways, including timeless black frames, summery Havana frames, and a pop of color in burgundy. The simplicity of the collection ensures the sunglasses can be worn with everything and anything throughout the summer.

This collection is made in Italy from premium Mazzucchelli acetate. It’s finished with lenses that offer 100 percent UVA and UVB protection. Each pair is priced the same at $270 USD.

Are LIÉ STUDIO Sunglasses Worth the Price?

LIÉ STUDIO’s materials are high-quality, and the styles look premium. However, there is always a risk that sunglasses will not meet the standards of specialized brands such as Oakley or Maui Jim. These brands have had decades to perfect their designs and construction, so newer eyewear brands and brands that don’t specialize in the accessory may not live up to the hype.

Although LIÉ STUDIO is highly esteemed by fashion editors and publications like Who What Wear, there’s a chance the new eyewear collection appeals only to niche fashion girls.

Generally, the sunglasses may be more affordable than those from some designer brands, such as Louis Vuitton. But you can find options like Celine’s curved square frames at a similar price point.

Will Clothing Be Next?

It’s not clear whether LIÉ STUDIO will start creating more sunglasses (and maybe even eyeglasses), staying true to their accessory roots, or if they’ll become a 360 fashion brand that sells clothes.

The founders Amalie and Cecilie Moosgaard’s fashionable ‘uniforms’ will continue to steer future collections. So expect more versatile, wearable, and simple pieces with a chic Scandi twist.
