Let’s begin by looking through the pricing and value offered at each store. We’ll take a look at their eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses.

Comparing Eyeglasses

Clearly sells its own brand of glasses as well as offerings from large eyewear brands. Their glasses come in a wide range of prices, from a few dollars for their own brand to hundreds of dollars for designer brands. 

EZContacts also sells glasses at a wide range of prices. They offer inexpensive models from brands like Peachtree and Wiliwili. 

They also offer moderately priced glasses from brands like Fossil and Love Moschino. In addition, they offer many different designer brands.

Clearly and EZContacts have some overlap in their inventories. When you look at the same products head-to-head, EZContacts’ products are often cheaper.

Let’s take the Ray-Ban Clubmasters as an example. Here they are on Clearly’s site:

On EZContacts’ site, these same frames cost $144:

When you add in premium standard plastic lenses, the glasses come in at $194, saving you $69, or 26%.

Here’s another example. These Polo glasses are discounted on Clearly’s site. However, they still cost more than the price at EZContacts. Here’s the price at Clearly:

Comparing Sunglasses

Clearly and EZContacts both also sell sunglasses at a wide range of prices. On both sites, sunglasses prices begin at around $10 to $20 and can go up to hundreds of dollars.

Similar to the eyeglasses, EZContacts’ sunglasses are generally cheaper than the ones offered at Clearly.

Other Important Price and Value Considerations 

Contact Lens Subscriptions and Loyalty Programs

EZContacts and Clearly both have contact lens subscription services. Clearly offers a Subscribe & Save program that offers 20% off the listed retail price. You can choose to have your contacts delivered every month, every three months, or every six months. Subscribe & save also always includes free shipping.

EZContacts offers a subscription service that gives you 10% off the listed retail price. EZContacts offers more options than Clearly for frequency. You can do either every month, every two months, every three months, every six months, or every year.

On top of their contact lens subscription program, EZContacts also offers a loyalty program called EZPoints. With this program, you’ll earn one EZPoint for every $2 spent on contact lenses, glasses, or sunglasses. Once you accumulate 250 points, you’ll receive an email with a $25 coupon. You can use this toward your next EZContacts order of $150 or more.

Clearly doesn’t offer a loyalty program like EZPoints. The only loyalty program they have is a refer-a-friend program. With this program, if you refer a friend to Clearly, they get $20 off their first order, and you get $20 off your next purchase for each successful referral.

Price-Matching

EZContacts and Clearly both offer price-matching services. EZContacts has a 105% price-match guarantee. If you find contact lenses, sunglasses, or eyeglasses at a lower price at a competitor’s store, EZContacts will refund you the difference plus an additional 5%.

Clearly’s price-matching service is much more limited. They only offer price-matching on contact lenses, and they limit customers to three price matches in 90 days. They also don’t offer an additional 5%.

Insurance Types Accepted

Clearly offers direct billing for a variety of Canadian insurers. If your insurer isn’t listed, you can submit your claim manually to Clearly.

EZContacts wins this round with their lower prices on glasses and sunglasses. EZContacts also offers more options for loyalty programs, and they have a more robust price-match guarantee.

Clearly offers around 1,700 glasses on its site, far less than what’s offered at EZContacts. The number of brands they offer is also limited.

Clearly fares a bit better when it comes to contact lenses. There’s more variety there. However, Clearly still has fewer options overall than EZContacts. There are 113 contacts available at Clearly:

All products offered by EZContacts and Clearly are 100% authentic. Many EZContacts reviewers shared that the products they received were in good condition. Whereas some reviews of Clearly have pointed out manufacturing issues, including incorrectly made products and poor lens quality.

Who Wins

EZContacts wins with its much larger number of brands and products. You have a far better chance of finding the product you’re looking for at EZContacts.

Shipping & Handling

Clearly Shipping

Clearly only ships in Canada. If you wanted to get their products in the U.S., you would have to use a parcel forwarding service. 

Their shipping times depend on what product you order. If you order prescription glasses or sunglasses, it can take three to seven days to assemble and fulfill your order. If you order non-prescription glasses or sunglasses, it typically takes two to four days to process these orders. 

For contact lenses, if you have a more complex prescription, such as toric, multifocal, or RGP, it will be ordered from the manufacturer. Once Clearly receives the order, it will be shipped within one to two days.

Once your order is ready, standard shipping typically takes around seven days. Express shipping takes three days, and premium express shipping takes one day.

Clearly offers free shipping on orders over $99. However, if your order doesn’t qualify for free shipping, there will be a fee. This cost varies based on postal code, order size, and current promotions.

EZContacts Shipping

EZContacts ships in both the U.S. and Canada. EZContacts offers free shipping on all orders in the U.S., including contact lenses. However, there is a fee for shipping to Canada. It costs $29.95 for FedEx International Economy and $49.95 for FedEx International Priority.

With EZContacts, orders that are placed before 2:00 p.m. EST will be processed that same business day. If you’re ordering prescription lenses, it will usually take three to five days for them to be made in EZContacts’ optical lab.

There may be a bit more of a wait if the item you want isn’t in stock. To ensure that it’s in stock, look for the green checkmark next to it.

EZContacts wins with their shipping options in both the U.S. and Canada. EZContacts also has shorter processing times than Clearly.

Return Policy & Warranty

Clearly Return Policy

Clearly offers a 30-day return policy for its items. Contact lenses must be returned unopened, sealed, and unmarked. Sunglasses and glasses must be returned new and in unworn condition with their original complementary cases.

To start the return process, you can call Clearly’s toll-free number, or you can go to your account on their website and click ‘Order History.’ Return shipping is free; simply print out the pre-paid return label. Clearly will issue a refund for the product when they receive confirmation that it’s with a courier on the way back to their facility. You’ll typically see your refund within four to seven business days.

Clearly also offers a 365-day warranty that covers manufacturer defects on frames and lenses. Their warranty doesn’t cover damage caused by wear and tear of everyday use. The only exception is if this damage occurs straight from the box and is reported within 14 days of delivery. 

If you experience a manufacturer’s defect, you can call Clearly on their toll-free number to request a one-time replacement.

EZContacts Return Policy

EZContacts also offers a 30-day return window. Contact lenses must be returned unopened, but glasses and sunglasses can be returned opened. They just must be in their original packaging and include everything they came with, such as authenticity papers, warranty cards, case, and cloth. You’ll typically receive a refund one to three days after your product arrives back at EZContacts’ facilities.

Starting your return process is simple with EZContacts. Just log in to your account and click ‘Start Return’ next to your order details. You can also head to the returns and exchanges page and put in your email address and order number. Note that return shipping isn’t covered, except for defective products or discrepancies. 

After 30 days, the manufacturer’s warranty will apply. Depending on your product, it will typically be covered for one to two years. Check the warranty card that came with your product for specific details.

Who Wins

Clearly wins this round with their quicker refund and free shipping for returns. While Clearly does issue refunds faster, EZContacts’ combination of pricing, support, and warranty policy delivers better value overall.

Customer Service & Support

Clearly Customer Service

Clearly offers a toll-free number that’s available 24 hours. They also say they’ll reply to emails within 24 hours. Clearly’s chat is available 24/7, and it begins with an AI bot.

One thing to note is that on Clearly’s contact us page, their ‘Chat with an agent’ button leads to a broken webpage. You can access their ‘chat with an agent’ feature from the bottom of the page as well. But if you have a problem with your product and are looking for support, it can be frustrating to come across an issue like that. 

There are also some negative reviews about Clearly’s customer service on Trustpilot. One customer said:

“Glasses broke, they were replaced and they broke again. Bad quality and Clearly refuses to stand behind their product. Customer service didn’t do anything. Never buying from them again.”

EZContacts Customer Service

EZContacts offers U.S.-based customer support that includes a phone number, an email address, and a FAQ page. Phone lines are typically staffed on Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST. There’s also a live chat available during business hours. In addition, most emails are answered within 24 hours.

EZContacts also offers assistance with insurance documentation and Rx verification.

Customers are generally happy with EZContacts’ customer service. One customer wrote:

“Called in to change my ship to address. Very nice to work with. My fault and they fixed it right away. Great to work with someone that believes in customer service.”

Clearly Reviews

When it comes to customer reviews, there are a few negative themes that arise with Clearly. One of the themes is packages being sent to the wrong address: Trish wrote:

“Got sent to the wrong address and they couldn’t reship it out. I had to pay for another order and they cancelled the old one and it took an additional 2 weeks instead of just shipping it out again.”

Heibe had a similar issue:

“Terrible delivery experience. I put in the correct address but they corrected my shipping address and shipped it to the place I no longer live in without my consent, where I shipped to for my very first Clearly order 2 years ago. I only realized that when I got the “delivered” email but didn’t receive the parcel. This is ridiculous.”

There are also a few reviews that mentioned glitches on Cleary’s website. Saeid wrote:

“Website is poorly designed, glitches on checkout. Wasted hours and their support was not helpful.”

June was mostly happy with her order, but she did mention that she experienced a glitch as well:

“Usually your delivery info is spot-on but this time it was weird. First the link you provided didn’t go anywhere – just a blank screen…the link seemed to indicate it was coming UPS. Then the package showed up at my door three days early and delivered by FedEx. Hope this was just a one-time glitch.”

On Reddit, a couple of Redditors popped onto an older post to share that they’ve had recent issues with Clearly. Jaclynbreeze wrote:

“I know this is an old post, but I was a devout Clearly member for years. The past year I have had nothing but issues with their contacts; 2 diff. brands (Acuvue and Everclear). Most of the contacts were warped so badly they couldn’t even sit on my eyeball. I contacted CS with pictures and they wanted me to return all the unopened. I just gave up and won’t go back lol. I put in so many years and had one complaint… and the order was like $40. My optometrist offers them at pretty much the same cost if I buy enough for the yearly, soooo.”

Another Redditor named mlandry2011 agreed with Jaclynbreeze, writing:

“Don’t buy from them, 3 months after I got my glasses, I tried opening the arms to put it on my face and the glass snapped in half…

They threw every excuse in the book at me. Why they shouldn’t not replace the glass…

They’re telling me I had the wrong size of glass and that’s why it broke… That’s their latest excuse…”

They have numerous filtering options on their glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses pages. However, there are some limitations here. For instance, they don’t have that many options for frame shape.
