Presbyopia contact lens wearers, I’ve got some good news for you. The FDA has approved new Deseyne contact lenses. They feature an extended depth of focus.

But what are these new contacts, and how will they help you? Here’s everything you need to know about the latest developments.

What Are Deseyne Contact Lenses?

Deseyne contact lenses are the first of their kind on the market in the U.S. The lenses were developed by Bruno Vision Care, and they’re soft, disposable daily lenses that feature extended depth of focus (EDOF). According to a press release by Bruno Vision Care, they’re different from multifocal contacts, which are commonly used to correct presbyopia.

Okay, what exactly does this mean for your eyesight?

Eddie Catalfamo, the cofounder and CEO of Cataltheia Group, of which Bruno Vision Care is a subsidiary, told the press that Deseyne contact lenses allow for “continuous focus from near to far, with no patient cognitive adaptation period required.”

The lenses are made from Vifilcon C hydrogel, which functions by using a patented hyper-refractive central zone. So, rather than multiple zones like in multifocal designs, Bruno Vision Care has stated that these lenses offer continuous, smooth vision.

In tests, it was shown that the contacts increase the depth of focus by about 0.78 diopters. They also increase near and intermediate visual acuity by about 1.5 lines on an eye chart.

In April 2025, the FDA approved the base lens material and technology components of the Deseyne contact lenses, which feature FusionTechnology™. Then, in December 2025, the FDA cleared the Deseyne contact lenses for commercial distribution in the U.S.

Are These Lenses a Game Changer?

The Deseyne contact lenses’ patented FusionTechnology™ uses a controlled-release system activated by body temperature, eyelid pressure, and blinking. The technology is designed to mimic natural tears. It’s supposed to help keep the wearer’s eyes moist and comfortable.

These lenses could be a game-changer in the treatment of presbyopia. They’re touted as easier to adapt to and with lower dropout rates.

According to the press release, EDOF lenses have proven popular with surgeons and patients. This indicates that the industry is ready for this revolution in presbyopia treatment.

Apparently, they also show lower rates of symptoms compared to multifocal technologies.

The U.S. launch of these new lenses is really revolutionizing eye care solutions. The launch was supported by consulting from Salution Nexus (part of the company Salution Health).

In a statement, the cofounder of Salution Health, Malvina Eydelman, MD, explained more about what her company does. She described Salution Health as “the world’s first fully integrated human and AI-powered health accelerator.” Their mission is to combine human expertise with AI to navigate complex clinical and regulatory environments. Eydelman added that Salution Nexus is the company’s “global regulatory and clinical strategy engine.”

“Salution Nexus provided singular regulatory and scientific expertise to the team that led the Deseyne U.S. submission over an extended period, supporting first-of-a-kind preclinical assessments and addressing unique regulatory issues,” Eydelman told Healio

Eydelman added that the work her company did to support Deseyne helped get the contacts FDA-approved. Now, the contacts are ready to be rolled out across the U.S. market.

More Details on the New Innovative Lenses

One of the breakthroughs with Deseyne contact lenses is the way their two patented technologies (vifilcon C and FusionTechnology™) work together for incredible results.

I won’t get too deep into the science jargon of these new lenses. But in short, bioactive substances are embedded within the lens. These substances feature vitamins, amino acids, and polysaccharides. The effect? Long-lasting comfort for the wearer and a more natural feel.

The FusionTechnology™ uses hyaluronic acid (you’ve probably heard all about hyaluronic acid in your skin care) with natural Tamarind Seed Polysaccharides. It’s released gradually so that it’s activated by body temperature, blinking, and eyelid pressure. This leads to seamless wear and better hydration for your eyes.

The CEO of Cataltheia, Eddie Catalfamo, stated that the patented technology in their lenses is “setting a new standard in vision care.” Bruno Vision Care is aiming to make presbyopia treatment more comfortable and more effective at providing clear, sharp vision. This will help make fitting easier for eye care doctors.

Paul Karpecki, who’s a leading OD in the U.S. eyecare field, says that Deseyne contact lenses are bringing something new to the market. Their unique design makes them capable of maintaining eye hydration throughout the day in a way that other lenses can’t.

Beating Dry Eyes

Dry eyes are one of the main issues for contact lens users. This is why a high percentage of wearers switch to other eyecare solutions each year. You want your contact lenses to look and feel invisible while supporting presbyopia treatment. You don’t want them to make your eyes itchy and dry.

That’s why Bruno Vision Care is celebrating that these new lenses can provide customers with a new level of comfort.

Catalfamo shared that getting FDA approval is going to help switch up and innovate the contact lens market. The market has become stagnant over the last few years. With an aging population, presbyopia treatment is needed now more than ever. Deseyne lenses might be able to help.

Who Is Bruno Vision Care?

The company behind Deseyne contact lenses, Bruno Vision Care, is a major pioneer in the vision industry. They started in 2019 under Bruno Farmaceutici, Italy’s third-largest pharmaceutical company. They combined a wealth of knowledge across health and wellness spaces to create an innovation-focused eyecare company.
