The 2025 theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, and it paid homage to Black fashion. Monica L. Miller, who wrote Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, helped inspire the creative concept.
The evening was all about fashion as a form of resistance and self-expression, and how global communities of African descent have used clothing in this light: picture refined tailoring, impeccable grooming, and bold women’s outfits inspired by sharp menswear.
Each year, the gala raises money for the Metropolitan Museum’s costume institute, and this year was the biggest yet, with $31 million raised!

Celebs love their sunglasses, and this year, the shades definitely stood out! Let’s be real: Designer sunglasses can take any outfit from a solid eight to a perfect ten.
The event has become an annual source of fashion inspiration. Even if you don’t have the budget for the premium looks, owning accessories, like those worn by this year’s guests, can make you feel like a million bucks!
We can’t all afford a three-piece custom-made tailored suit. But designer eyewear? That’s more doable!
Men’s Sunglasses at the Met Gala

One of the leading men of the night, A$AP Rocky, co-chaired the event. Anna Wintour herself approved!
He was in charge and looked the part in his black and white suit. It was on point, but it was his oversized black Ray-Ban Puffer sunglasses that stood out to me. They were definitely giving main character energy!
Although these aren’t handcrafted in Italy from 18k gold and encrusted with diamonds, you can never go wrong with these classic Ray-Ban Mega Wayfarer sunglasses!
Pharrell Williams
Pharell was also one of this year’s co-chairs, and it wasn’t a surprise, considering he’s now the menswear designer for Louis Vuitton. He designed some of the looks for other celebrities on the red carpet, so he kept his outfit simple, letting his work shine instead.
He finished off his custom-made look with square black sunglasses. You can’t go wrong with this style! These slick black Gucci shades are a good look-alike that would go well with a dapper suit and a pair of loafers.
Bad Bunny
Bad Bunny made a statement with his suave brown suit and bold accessories, including an oversized leather bag and woven hat. The icing on the cake was a pair of tiny oval sunglasses. They finished off the look and added a hint of mystery.
These unisex CELINE Metal Triomphe shades, in shiny Endura Gold or Palladium, will keep you looking just as cool. Throw on your favorite blazer and hat, and you’ll look like you stepped off the Met Carpet.
Jeff Goldblum
Adding unique flair to every red carpet he walks, Jeff is all about making fashion moves. He’s a man who isn’t afraid to express himself, so the Met Gala theme 2025 was a great fit for him. He showed up in a fur-rimmed cape, naturally.
He topped off his look with a bling watch and cool semi-transparent tinted sunglasses. Take some inspiration from Jeff in these edgy shades by Cutler and Gross. They are perfect for summer 2025, where men’s style is all about taking risks.

One of hip-hop’s original queens, Ms. Lauryn Hill, made a show-stopping entrance. She truly paid homage to the Met Gala theme.
Her butter-yellow sculptural suit was one of the boldest looks on the red carpet. She paired it with a blue Hermes bag and red frames to add even more color!
These epic Chopard sunglasses are a close match. Seemingly inspired by Old Hollywood, they feature glamorous crystals and plum lenses. They’ll have you looking like you just stepped out of a movie!
Janelle Monáe
There are fashionable celebrities, and then there are fashionistas. Janelle Monáe is a fashion ICON; her looks are always bold, creative, and fun.
Monae really went for it at the 2025 Met Gala. She turned heads with an elaborate, multi-patterned, red, white, and black three-piece suit with a column skirt instead of pants.
She topped it off with a bowler hat and a monocle with a face made to look like an old-fashioned timepiece. What a way to capture the spirit of Black dandyism!
I don’t have any recommendations for monocles, but these oversized round Gucci sunglasses give off fun energy that will liven up any outfit.
Amelia Gray Hamlin
Amelia Gray is a model and up-and-coming “it girl.” She’s been raising her status through daring outfits like the red lace bodysuit she wore at the 2025 Met Gala.
She finished her outfit with a pair of huge Ray-Ban Meta sunglasses, a new collaboration with Meta. The shades use AI to snap photos and can even accept incoming calls.
While the originals are not widely available yet, these Ray-Ban frames have a sleek cat-eye shape like Amelia’s. After all, you can’t lose with classic cat-eye shades!

One of the biggest fashion designers out there, Vera Wang, is a legend in the industry. She turned up in an ultra-glamorous feather-trimmed dress. But it was her sunglasses that really stood out.
She opted for a huge rectangular pair of black shades that were a masculine contrast against her feminine dress. This pair of Ferragamo shades is perfect if you want to rock huge shades this year.
