While you may have already found your tried-and-true glasses style that showcases your face, that doesn’t mean you can’t try out some new trends. And boy, this year’s fashion shows in Paris, New York, London, and Milan were ripe with trend ideas

Versace showcased multiple versions of a contemporary twist on aviators (hello pops of neon!) while Valentino kept it geometric, showcasing rectangular frames and modern cat-eyes to complement their lively clothing.

So whether you’re looking to try out a bold new trend or you’ll be sticking to the classics, we’ve got plenty of inspiration for you. From XXL oversized frames to vibrant bright colors, here are the eyewear trends you’ll be seeing this season.

Rectangular frames

Rectangular frames have been plastered all over Instagram and based on what we’re seeing on the runway, they aren’t going anywhere. To elevate this trend, opt for a brightly-colored acetate frame. From bubble gum pink to olive green, these colors just feel like summer. At Marques Almeida, we saw clear red acetate frames while Miu Miu debuted a Pepto Bismol pink option. Valentino showcased the color of the year: olive green. Whether you go bold and try a new color or opt for a classic neutral, these geometric rectangular frames will bring a touch of edge to any outfit.

Speaking of going bold in eyewear, now is the time to try on a new frame color. The brighter the better. Across the runways, we saw bold colors and neon brights in all frame shapes and sizes. At Versace, neon yellow rims updated the classic aviator shape. At Miu Miu, a bright solid teal brought a fun touch to a rounded cat-eye shape. And Daniel Lee debuted a sports-inspired frame complete with green accents at Bottega Veneta. Whatever frame shape you’re looking to wear come summer, make it a bold one with bright and playful colors.

This past summer, we saw an influx of sportswear-influenced trends, especially in tennis-inspired outfits. Take this trend to the next level by reaching for a performance aesthetic frame. Oversized frames and shield-style glasses are a sportier and sleek option to transform your look. Take note from Tom Ford and go for yellow lenses that will have you looking like you’re straight from the ski slope.

The 70s inspired glasses aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. Bold oversized frames were seen across the runways. An XXL square lens will give you a glamorous retro feel. With a statement-making frame like this, luxurious neutral tones will help you keep it chic. Rich browns, black, and tortoises will give you an elevated feel that still feels vintage-inspired. If you’re already versed in oversized frames and want to try something new, try a dark brown-tinted lens.

Cat-eyes are undoubtedly a classic shape when it comes to eyewear trends. Whether you’re looking for a flat top version or a narrow lens for an angular look, you won’t regret this timeless style. Tom Ford showcased a flat top version of the cat-eye which offers a more masculine take to this otherwise ultra-feminine shape. Valentino went angular with their cat-eye options offering a more modern take to this retro style. Cat-eye frames are extremely versatile and flattering. The upturned frame shape lifts the face and highlights the cheekbones.
